The Rise of DJ Capital: Balancing Music, Business, and Reality TV

  1. Who is Siyabonga Sibeko apart from being DJ Capital?
I am just 22 years old young’n trying to do my thing. I co-own a company called 4Play Media and am also an events promoter and co-founder of #ALS.
  2. Explain the whole journey from being the rapper Capital C.Y.A. to a hip-hop disc jockey (not underwear) named Dj Capital.
Well, with rapping, it wasn’t moving as quickly as I wanted it to, and I’m a very impatient person, so I lost interest and gave up on it.
  3. Hit us with a line, Capital C.Y.A.

I’ll do you one better and give you an entire 16:

    “It’s been a minute, like 60 seconds, but now I’m back—connected.
Just forget it cause Cap’s back and I demand respect kid//

Epidemic, the devil knows we’re sick, sick, sick!!!//
  4. Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and Anthropology; explain yourself.

Anthropology I found it very interesting, and with sociology, well, I passed it in my first year and decided to carry on with it. It is not my biggest love, I must admit.
  5. You have shared the stage with big hip-hop personalities such as Maino and DJ Drama; what is your defining moment so far? What do you think of when you sit on your throne?

I just think that five years ago, I didn’t even think I’d be a DJ and achieve as much as I have in such a short period of time. With hard work, anything is possible.
  6. What was the first show or set you worked on? And how did it turn out?

My first set ever was at a club called Keyes in Rosebank (formerly called The Bank). I was hosting a gig, and one of my DJs ditched me, so I had to play. I played a terrible set, (laughs)! But the song selection was dope. That’s when I decided to actually learn and practice my art.
  7. Late last year, you released a single “So Crazy” featuring Reason, Young Slugz, and Heemal G; you also produced TJ’s single “Drink To This.” Does that mean we’re going to see a Dj Capital mixtape or album anytime soon?

To clear it up, I didn’t produce TJ’s single; I’m just a featured artist on the song. Yes, you will see a release from DJ Capital, but as far as time goes, I’m yet to decide when.
  8. Are you a resident DJ for any club?

No, I’m not a resident DJ at any club, but I am a resident DJ at my event, ALS.
  9. Let’s talk, Repertoires. How did the relationship with the REPS come along?

They heard me playing in the club once and came through to speak to me after my set. We exchanged numbers and ideas and started building a relationship.
  10. Did being the REPS official DJ and being on the reality show Running With the REPS influence the growth of your career?

Yea, definitely. It gave me legitimacy.
  11. Is there anything that we don’t know about the REPS and yourself?

If you don’t know, there’s a good reason for that!
  12. What was the craziest thing to happen when you were on set?

I think Larry’s suicide attempt was the craziest thing to happen on set. People don’t understand that the show is reality; they capture everything!
  13. What do you do when you’re not on set?

Working on 4Play Media business or recording in the studio.
  14. Do you have other commitments, or are you still studying outside of your music career?

Nah, this is my life now. “No plan B; this is all I know.”
  15. If you could be known for something, what would you like to be known for?

Being DJ Capital and being the best version of him possible.
  16. What is your relationship with Makhosini Sihlali about?

We’re business partners in 4Play Media, but he is also my manager.
  17. Any message to Reeva Steenkamp’s family (Oscar’s murdered girlfriend)?

Be strong and stay in the Lord. Condolences.

Questions from a fan:

If you were to travel a long distance and you had to take along one guy from the REPs, who would it be?

(Laughs)! Damn!! That’s a tough one, but it would be one of three people. Either Mike, TJ, or Taydos Probably Mike, though; we have fun when we travel together. #NoHomo (LAUGHS)

What’s your take on Valentine’s Day?

I’m not a fan, and I don’t celebrate the day at all. I believe people should spoil their loved ones when they want to, not because society has dedicated a day to it.

If you were to spend your Valentine’s Day with a celebrity, who would it be?

MINNIE DLAMINI!!!!!!
